Vara Perikala is a Nurse Practitioner working in Myhealth Medical Centre Chadstone.

Vara has commenced practicing as a Nurse Practitioner after many years of acute, critical care, coronary and respiratory nursing experience. Since migrating to Australia in 2002, Vara has been working in advanced roles in intensive care, Coronary Care and Respiratory Care Units at Epworth Hospital, The Alfred hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Prior to this Vara worked in Intensive Care units in countries such as India, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. Vara undertook a Graduate Diploma in Critical Care including Coronary Care at Deakin University in 2004 and was awarded a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice at the University of Melbourne in 2010. Vara has also completed courses in a wide spectrum of medicine such as Asthma education, comprehensive sexual and Reproductive Health, cervical screening, immunisation, skin cancer medicine and spirometry. She is one of only 1900 trained and qualified Nurse Practitioners in Australia, which authorises her to independently diagnose and treat patients, and prescribe medications without the involving of a doctor. 

Vara has published multiple research papers for prestigious journals, such as the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Journal, and the Critical Care Nursing Journal, and she has been acknowledged by respiratory doctors in their publications in the Respiratory Medicine Journal.

Vara has also presented over 15 abstracts for Research Week at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with Skin Cancer by the age of 70?  However, the good news is – 95 per cent of Skin Cancers can be successfully treated if detected early.  Annual Skin Checks are encouraged for individuals to comprehensively assess and examine any evidence of Skin Cancer

We are now offering a high-quality service towards the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. This process involves a full skin examination, assessing any spots or lesions on the skin while using specialised imaging technology to accurately monitor and follow up any suspicious spots
